Attack on polling agent, police SI suspended, 3 arrested
In response to a complaint lodged by CPI(M) state secretary and leader of opposition (LoP), Jitendra Chaudhury, action has been swiftly taken by the Election department and one police SI has been suspended by the poll panel.
Based on the complaint received by Chaudhury over physical attack on Satyabrata Chowdhury, one polling agent of Congress candidate Ashish Kumar Saha under 6-Agartala assembly constituency, who was physically assaulted by some miscreants at Indranagar area in presence of polling staff, sector officer during Home Voting process.
After the incident, a specific case has been registered at NCC police station and police have also arrested three accused persons involved with the incident.
Based on the complaint, the Returning Officer (RO) of West Tripura PC asked the SP(West) to take departmental enquiry over the incident and police has also taken departmental proceedings against one police SI Dipankar Debnath and for his gross negligence in duty, he has been suspended.
Following the complaint, the Election Department issued an order suspending Sub-Inspector (UB) Dipankar Debnath of the West District for negligence in duty and this decision reflects the commitment of authorities to ensure fairness and transparency in the electoral process.
While, poll official to a letter to the complainant Jitendra Chaudhury also informed him that as preventive measures, area domination patrolling, foot patrolling , vehicular mobile, flag march etc involving Central Arms Police Forces (CAPFs) has been intensified in the concerned areas.
