A delegation of ruling BJP on Wednesday approached the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) office of Election Commission of India (ECI) with an important demand regarding the electoral process ahead of the upcoming Village Committee elections. The delegation submitted a memorandum urging the Commission to initiate the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process immediately after the Village Committee elections are completed.
The delegation included Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, Bipin Debbarma, and other party leaders, stated that the SIR process is crucial for the revision and updation of electoral rolls. According to them, starting the process promptly after the Village Committee elections of Autonomous District Council (ADC) would help make the voter list more accurate and transparent.
During the deputation, the delegation raised several issues before the Election Commission. Particular emphasis was placed on ensuring that the names of genuine voters are properly included in the electoral roll, conducting necessary verification of ineligible or absent voters, and maintaining transparency in the preparation of the voter list.
The delegation expressed hope that the Election Commission of India (ECI) would consider their demands seriously and take the necessary steps to initiate the SIR process soon after the completion of the Village Committee elections.
