The College of Fisheries under the Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal, celebrated its 28th Foundation Day at Lembucherra in Tripura on Saturday, highlighting its achievements in fisheries education, research and innovation while honouring 39 distinguished alumni for their professional accomplishments.
Tripura Higher Education, Panchayat and General Administration (Political) Minister Kishor Barman attended the programme as the chief guest. The event was also attended by Techno India University, Tripura Vice Chancellor Prof. Ratan Kumar Saha, Animal Resources Development Department Special Secretary S. Prabhu, IFS, and Principal of the College of Agriculture, Lembucherra, Prof. Debashish Sen, as guests of honour and special guest respectively. Dean of the College of Fisheries, Prof. Arun Bhai Patel, welcomed the dignitaries and participants.
As part of the celebrations, the college inaugurated the extension of its Boys' Hostel, a Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS), and a Fish Seed Rearing Unit. Teaching manuals and technology leaflets were also released to support academic and extension activities.
The programme included the presentation of trophies to winners of the Annual College Week-2026 in literary, sports and cultural events. Awards were also presented to the Student of the Year and recipients of Academic Excellence Awards.
A major attraction of the event was the felicitation of 39 alumni achievers for their outstanding contributions in various professional fields during 2025-26.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Kishor Barman described the College of Fisheries as a unique institution for maintaining strong ties with its alumni. He said the institution has the potential to emerge as a major hub for education, skill development and knowledge generation in Tripura. Stressing the growing importance of the fisheries sector in achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat, he underscored the college's strategic role in advancing the development of Northeast India through research, innovation and technology.
The minister also highlighted the importance of institution building, encouraging alumni to contribute to society, promoting problem-solving education and creating an integrated ecosystem of knowledge, research and innovation.
During the programme, the Prof. J. R. Dhanze Memorial Awards were presented to the top two rank holders of the college in the ICAR AIEEA (PG)-2026 examination. Special recognition was given to S. Dinesh Singh for securing All India Rank (AIR) 1 in Fisheries Science in the national-level ICAR AIEEA (PG)-2026, bringing laurels to the institution.
In his address, Prof. Arun Bhai Patel thanked all faculty members, staff, students and stakeholders for making the Foundation Day celebrations a success. He also acknowledged the guidance and support of Central Agricultural University Vice Chancellor Dr. Anupam Mishra.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Students' Welfare Officer M. Sanju Singh, followed by the National Song and the National Anthem.
