Opposition Congress on Monday organized mass protest across 23 subdivisions of the state demanding immediate release of financial assistance to all flood affected people of the state along with other relief measures.

After a mass protest rally in Agartala, a delegation of Congress leaders submitted a memorandum before the SDM(Sadar) in Agartala in support of their demands and Congress has also submitted similar demands before other SDMs of 22 more subdivisions across the state.

While, after their protest rally, senior Congress leader and MLA Sudip Roy Barman speaking with media persons  strongly criticized the Central government for failing to declare proper financial assistance for the flood-affected people in Tripura.

Roy Barman stated that many people, especially farmers, laborers, livestock keepers, and fish farmers, suffered significant losses due to the flood and till date, they did not get any financial support from the government .

“The double-engine government, particularly the Central government, has failed to provide even a single penny to the state government for helping the flood victims till today . This proves how serious the Central government is about Tripura. People are dying of hunger, they have suffered heavy losses due to the flood,” said Sudip.

“We are all know that radical forces has stopped many Durga Pujas in neighbouring Bangladesh, but unfortunately, in our state, there will be no Durga Puja celebration in Gandacherra subdivision, unfortunately, no one is rising the issue over the suffering of common people in Gandacherra,” said Roy Barman.

He said that  Congress has taken a series of steps to support  the people of the state, who are living life in distress.

He also  alleged that Congress leaders faced attacks while supporting the people in distress at Mohanpur area of West Tripura district.

Roy Barman said that nine persons were badly injured and are currently undergoing treatment. He also alleged that goons owing their allegiance with the ruling party launched attacks on them inside the SDM office while they  were to speak on behalf of the people affected by the flood.

Congress also demanded withdrawal of power tariff hike  and the fees imposed on Vidyajyoti students.
