Drug smuggler arrested with arms, Ganja

One drug smuggler was arrested with arms and ammunition along with dry Cannabis from Sidhai Mohanpur area under West Tripura district on Thursday.

Giving details, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sidhai police station Siddhartha Kar said that the local villagers of Hejamara and Subal Singh on Wednesday midnight detained a person with his car after his suspicious movements. The villagers informed the matter to police and a team of police personnel led by SDPO (Mohanpur) rushed to the spot. The police conducted a body search on the suspected detained person, identified as Ranjan Debbarma (33) of Lefunga area of the same district and recovered one country made pistol and nine live rounds under his possession.

Police also recovered 4 kilograms of dry-cannabis (Ganja) from his car (Maruti Alto) and arrested him.

Kar said that arrested drug smuggler Ranjan Debbarma was produced before a local court on Thursday under specific case of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and Arms Act.

He said that they have also started an investigation to find out the source of the arms and ammunition.
