Fatal Diwali night, three accidents, 2 including a renowned businessman killed, several injured
As many as two people died including a state’s renowned businessman and several others were injured in three separate road accidents in different parts of the state on the night of Diwali. Additionally, a TSR jawan was assaulted while trying to control a clash between two groups following a vehicle collision.
The first accident took place in the Baramura Hill ranges on the way to Agartala from Teliamura on Friday morning where a well-established businessman of MG Bazar of Agartala and the President of the Wholesale Vegetable Traders' Union of Maharajganj Bazar, Nantu Paul lost his life due to severe injuries and one of his elder brother-in-law battling for life at GB Hospital in serious condition.
It was learned that on the occasion of Deepawali, with the influence of some other traders of Teliamura Paul along with his elder brother-in-law , identified as Satyajit Lodh (60) went to Teliamura to offer their prayer at Kali temple after worship of Goddess at Paul’s house in Math Chowmuhani area of Agartala. They reached Teliamura in the wee hours of Friday. When they left Teliamura towards Agartala on Paul’s own car, at a point in Baramura Hill ranges and were crushed with a roadside tree at heavy speed due to excessive work pressure and lack of sleep, Pal lost control over the car and the accident took place.
According to the sources, after the accident the injured persons were rescued from the scene by some eyewitnesses they were being transported through an auto-rickshaw as the local police station and even the Fire Service officials allegedly didn't respond promptly, and on the way to GB Hospital, Pal succumbed due to his critical abdominal injuries, while, injured Satyajit Lodh was admitted at Trauma centre of GB Hospital in critical condition.
In another accident, Piyush Debnath (28) from Udaipur's Gokulpur area was killed ater his scooter was hit by a police escort vehicle in the Tepania area in Udaipur. He was rushed to Gomati District Hospital in critical condition but was declared dead on arrival.
The third accident took place at the Rastarmatha area in Bishalgarh under Sepahijala district around 3 AM, when a clash broke out between two groups after a collision between two vehicles. In the clash, a TSR jawan was assaulted while attempting to intervene and control the situation.
Police have registered cases in all the incidents and are investigating the causes behind the accidents and the subsequent clash.
