Five NLFT(PD) rebels surrendered with arms and ammunition before police

Five extremists of NLFT(PD) faction on Monday surrendered before top officials of Tripura police with arms and ammunition and other incriminating documents.
Police sources said that during surrendered before the DIG(Intelligence) at the Special Branch headquarters in Agartala, they deposited one 22 Chinese pistol, two .22 Chinese made rifles, 17 live rounds of .22, ten 70 mm shotgun shell, one walkie-talkie with charger, few Bangladeshi currency, two mobile sim cards and extortion notices of PD faction.
Police sources added that five surrendered NLFT(Parimal Debbarma) extremists were identified as Netajoy Reang alias Naising (33), Mohonda Renag alias Saltnag (36), Sukumar Reang alias Sinai (27), Kiranjit Reang alias Berem (20) and Bishnuram Reang alias Baikang (26), all were resident of Anandabazar area under North Tripura district choose to renounce the path of bloodshed and crossed over to the side to India from their hideout in Bangladesh to join the main stream of life.
After entering Indian territory, they contacted state police and surrendered before the DIG(Intelligence) Krishnendu Chakravertty and additional SP Chandan Saha at Agartala. This group of NLFT(PD) rebels has been operationally very active across the fence in Bangladesh, said police.
Police sources added that since January 2023, a large number of NLFT cadres surrendered before the security forces and so far, 26 active members of NLFT surrendered before Tripura police and other security forces. During the period, eight NLFT cadres have also been arrested by the state police with the surrender of five NLFT(PD) cadres on Monday.
Now, Tripura has further advanced towards making the state insurgence free and it is a significant achievement of Tripura police as far as militancy is concerned. Due to such efforts of the state police, remaining factions of NLFT are further finding it difficult to exist and operate in the state’s soil.
