Bishalgarh Police of Sepahijala district have arrested five persons in connection with a recent burglary at a house in Netaji Nagar area and launched an investigation to recover the stolen valuables, police said on Monday.
Police sources said that a daring burglary took place a few days ago at the residence of Shefali Das in Netaji Nagar under Bishalgarh police station. Following the registration of a case, police launched an investigation and conducted raids.
Acting on specific inputs, police arrested five suspected thieves from different locations in Bishalgarh during a late-night operation on Sunday.
Police also recovered a mobile phone from the accused. Preliminary examination of the device reportedly revealed footage related to the stolen gold ornaments, and investigators are examining the evidence as part of the ongoing probe.
The accused were produced before a local court under tight security on Monday afternoon.
Speaking to reporters, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bishalgarh police station Babul Das said the investigation was progressing rapidly and expressed confidence that the alleged mastermind behind the burglary would soon be identified and arrested.
Police said further investigation is in progress to recover the stolen property and ascertain the involvement of other suspects.
