The Congregation of Holy Cross, Province of Northeast India, has mourned the passing of Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Kallarackal, C.S.C., former Principal of Holy Cross School and Founding Principal of Holy Cross College, Agartala.
Fr. Emmanuel passed away in Ireland on August 29, 2026. His demise has been described as a significant loss to the Holy Cross community and the educational sector of Tripura, where he made a lasting contribution through decades of dedicated service.
A visionary educator, inspiring leader and mentor, Fr. Emmanuel played a key role in shaping the academic landscape of the state. His association with Holy Cross School, Agartala, began as Vice Principal from 1984 to 1987. He later served as the school’s Principal from 1997 to 2003.
In 2009, he took charge as the founding Principal of Holy Cross College, Agartala, and continued in that role until 2019. Under his leadership, the institution expanded its role in providing higher education opportunities to students across the region.
The Congregation stated that for Fr. Emmanuel, education was not limited to academic excellence but was about nurturing character, awakening minds and helping young people realise their potential.
“He was a demanding yet encouraging educator, a visionary but deeply compassionate leader, and a mentor who generously shared his time, wisdom and faith in others,” the statement said.
The Congregation highlighted that his legacy extends beyond the institutions he led, living on through thousands of students he inspired, teachers he guided and families whose lives were enriched by his service.
“Tripura has lost someone who contributed significantly to its educational growth and believed deeply in the transformative power of young people,” the statement added.
Arrangements are being made to bring Fr. Emmanuel’s mortal remains to Agartala. Further details regarding his funeral and final rites will be announced later.
The Congregation said his life and work will continue to inspire generations through the values of knowledge, confidence, compassion and commitment to building a better future.
