In a successful operation, the Sepahijala district police manage to arrest one fugitive drug smuggler from Kolkata airport with the help of intelligence agencies.
Giving details, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sonamura police station, Tapash Das on July 19, police personnel from Sonamura police station has seized a big consignment of narcotic items from a bordering village and among three involved drug smugglers with seized smuggle items, police has managed to arrest them.
But, the kingpin of the drug smuggling network after police raids, escaped from Sonamura, said Das and during the past six days, the district police with help of sister intelligence agencies managed to identify the location of the escaped smugglers.
Based on the information, a contingent of police along with personnel from intelligence agencies arrested him at Kolkata airport on Friday.
Das said that arrested smuggle was brought to Sonamura from Kolkata through a transit remand on Saturday and will be produced before a local court on Sunday with police remand appeal in a specific case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
