Ganja seized from Amazon parcel van, one arrested
After adopting different methods and techniques for smuggling of dry Cannabis (Ganja) from Tripura to different parts of the country, now smugglers has adopted another unique idea and tried to smuggle Ganja through cargo van of Amazon online shopping platform, but was failed for vigilant police forces at Churaibari area of North Tripura district.
Giving details, SP of North Tripura district, Bhanupada Chakraborty said that based on secret information, the officer-in-charge (OC) of Churaibari police station, Samaresh Das along with police personnel detained a cargo van (AS-01-PC-8915) moving towards Guwahati from Agartala with parcels from Amazon online shopping platform.
During checking, police recovered many bags and parcels contained with Amazon stickers, but when forces opened these cartons they found dry Ganja, said SP and added that after searching all bags and cartons loaded inside the mini truck, police recovered a total of 21 kilograms of Ganja, worth Rs. 3 lakh.
He said that police have arrested accused mini truck driver Ratan Debnath (26) of South Laljuri of Kanchanpur under North Tripura district with a specific case of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Chakraborty added that police started an investigation to find out the sources of the smuggling network of Ganja through Amazon parcel van.
