Governor flagged off "Sundays on Cycle" in Agartala; emphasizes grassroots fitness
The "Sundays on Cycle" event, organized by the Sports Authority of India (SAI), Regional Centre, Kolkata, under the FIT INDIA Movement, witnessed enthusiastic participation and a significant boost to the fitness culture in Agartala on Sunday. The event was successfully flagged off by the Governor , Indrasena Reddy Nallu from the historic Ujjayanta Palace.
In his inspiring address, the Governor highlighted that cycling is an excellent activity that promotes cardiovascular fitness and overall health. He lauded the "Sundays on Cycle" initiative under the Fit India Movement and strongly emphasized the need to take this initiative to the grassroots level, ensuring that all villages, schools, and people from diverse walks of life actively participate and benefit from such events.
Adding to the occasion's prestige, Tinku Roy, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, actively participated in the event. Minister Roy highlighted the remarkable advancements Tripura has made in medal achievements and the development of sports infrastructure. He further spoke about the state's goal of fostering a vibrant cycling culture at all levels, emphasizing that it not only promotes personal fitness but also plays a key role in creating greener, cleaner urban environments.
The event was also graced by esteemed sports personalities and dignitaries. Mantu Debnath, Arjun Awardee and Renowned Gymnast, expressed his appreciation for the initiatives under the Fit India Movement, stating that they will contribute significantly to making people healthier, happier, and fit.
Other notable dignitaries present included Dr. Pradeep Kumar Chakravarty, , Secretary of Youth Affairs and Sports department, SB Nath, Director, Youth Affairs and Sports and John M Kharshing, Secretary General, North East Sports Association.
The call to cycle was enthusiastically answered by over 150 local cycling enthusiasts, senior officials from Assam Rifles, and members from the Agartala Cycloholic Foundation, who actively participated in the 5 km ride to Oxygen Park, Gandhi Gram.
Lakshman Dongari, Assistant Director, SAI Regional Centre, Kolkata, and Arindam, Centre In-charge, STC Agartala extended a heartfelt vote of thanks to all participants, dignitaries, stakeholders, and supporting organizations for their active cooperation and support in making the event a grand success.
The "Sundays on Cycle" initiative continues to be a cornerstone of the FIT INDIA movement, encouraging a healthier and more active India. "Sundays on Cycle" is a nationwide cycling initiative by the Sports Authority of India under the FIT INDIA movement. It aims to promote fitness, reduce obesity, and encourage a healthy lifestyle by making cycling a regular part of citizens' routines.
