In two special anti-drug operations, Agartala capital city and Teliamura police arrested four drug peddlers and recovered huge quantities of contraband items including Brown Sugar and dry cannabis.
Giving details of the operation, SDPO(Sadar) Ajoy Kumar Das said that based on secret information, a contingent of police personnel from East Agartala police station led by OC Rana Chatterjee chased three suspected drug smugglers at Gangail road of Town Pratapgarh and detained three youths with a motorbike, though they tried to escape from the spot.
In the course of the search operation, a police team recovered one lakh vials including 300 filled vials with Brown Sugar and 4 shop case boxes containing 65 grams of Brown Sugar. Police arrested three drug peddlers identified as Sujit Das of Town Pratapgarh, Rahim Miah of Master Para and Subhrajit Dey of Bardowali area of the city. Police also recovered a motor bike under their possession, which has been used for transportation of narcotic items.
Das said that total seizure of the drugs worth approximately Rs. 30 lakh and all three arrested drug peddlers will be produced before a local court with police remand appeals under a specific case registered under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 (NDPS Act) .
In another operation, the police and traffic personnel of Teliamura police station over suspicion detained a lorry, which was proceeding towards Assam from Agartala.
SDPO (Teliamura) Prasun Tripura said that during the search operation, a police team recovered 161 kilograms of dry cannabis from the cabin of the truck contained in 28 packets. Tripura said that police have arrested the truck driver identified as Mohamad Jamiluddin of Darbhanga district of Bihar, who was trying to smuggle seized dry cannabis to Bihar state.
