Huge quantities of Ganja in Flipkart parcels seized from Agartala Railway station, 3 arrested
The Agartala Railway station , which become top hotspot for human trafficking and drug smuggling through surface means of Railway, the security forces posted at the station on Tuesday seized huge quantities of dry Ganja (Cannabis) from the parcels of giant e-commerce platform ‘Flipkart’ and arrested three peddlers.
Giving details of the operation, Assistant Commandant of Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Agartala station, Binod Kumar Sinha said that based on the secret information, a joint contingent of RPF and Government Railway Police (GRP) detained a suspected parcel van of a courier company on Tuesday.
He said a courier company named ‘Ecom Express’, which delivers various goods from the state to buyers in other states via Flipkart, was found to be involved. Acting on a tip-off, RPF (Railway Protection Force) and GRP (Government Railway Police) conducted a joint raid on one of the company's vehicles.
During the search, a large quantity of dry Ganja was recovered from the vehicle. A total of 59 kg of Ganja was found, packed in 26 packets across six cartons. The estimated market value of the seized ganja is around Rs 6 lakh, said Sinha and added that they have detained three individuals, including the manager, in connection with the incident.
According to sources, the courier company based in RK Nagar, owned by a businessman from Kolkata, had planned to send the Ganja via Railway to Sahil in Delhi and Kunal Kumar in Patna. The consignment had been brought to Agartala Railway Station for shipment.
Sinha also said that all seized narcotic items and three detained persons were handed over to GRP of Agartala Railway station for further legal proceedings.
