Human trafficker involved with trafficking of 25 Rohingyas arrested
Tripura police based on the interrogation statements of arrested Rohingyas have managed to arrest a kingpin of a human trafficking network from Unakoti district, who was actively involved with trafficking of Bangladeshi and Rohingyas.
Giving details, SP of North Tripura district, Bhanupada Chakraborty said that police has arrested 25 Rohingyas including six women and seven children in two different places of North Tripura district on July 4th and 5th before they boarded buses to first go to Guwahati then to Hyderabad by train in search of jobs.
He said that based on interrogation statements of arrested Rohingyas, police arrested a kingpin of human trafficking, identified as Surukh Ali (40) of Mauguli village under Irani police station of Unakoti district.
SP said that arrested Surukh Ali helped 25 Rohingyas including women and children to cross the international border of India-Bangladesh and after they entered Tripura's territory, arrested human trafficker had managed tickets for their travelling towards Guwahati.
Chakraborty said that arrested trafficker was produced before local court on Sunday with police remands appeal to get details of his trafficking network.
It may be recalled here that the alarming human trafficking and rises of infiltration by Bangladesh nationals and Rohingyas in different parts of Tripura, specially their detention from Agartala railway station before their movement toward other parts of the country, the Chief Minister on Thursday (July 4th) called a meeting with top BSF, police authorities in presence of Chief Secretary and issued directives for effective steps to stop all illegal activities on the Indo-Bangladesh border.
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha asked the authorities despite strong barbed wire fencing along the India-Bangladesh border and deployment of a large number of BSF jawans, how the infiltration is rampantly going on along with smuggling. He also issued stern warning over dereliction in duties by border guards, which has directly affected internal security of the country.
But, at midnight, North Tripura district police arrested 25 Rohingyas before boarding to a Guwahati bound bus.
