Large-scale Ganja plantation destroyed in Sepahijala district
After nearly a week, amid dense fog on Tuesday morning, a large police contingent of Jatrapur police station under Sepahijala district, successfully carried out a massive anti-narcotics operation, destroying a huge number of mature Cannabis (Ganja) plants at different locations.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, the OC of Jatrapur police station, Smritikanta Burdhan said that the operation was conducted with the participation of all police personnel of Jatrapur police station, along with TSR jawans from the 14th, 9th and 11th battalions. During the operation, cannabis plants were cut and destroyed in 12 plots located in the Southern Teichhmar jungle of the ADC Village area.
After completing the operation there, the team returned to Kathalia and then proceeded towards the Thandamura forest area of South Paharpur. The force traveled nearly 12 kilometers northwards along the Sonamura–Bilonia bypass road from the tri-junction in Kathalia’s commercial area, where cannabis plantations spread across 10 plots were destroyed.
The OC stated that while some people were seen observing the operation from a distance, the owners of the cannabis gardens did not dare to resist, apparently due to the strength of the deployed force.
In total, cannabis plants in 22 plantations were destroyed, with nearly one lakh mature plants cut down. Despite dense fog, the operation was carried out successfully.
The OC further added that such anti-narcotics drives would continue in the coming days based on specific intelligence inputs.
