Legal Aid Society of NLU, Tripura conducts Nukkad Natak on "Aurat Ki Awaz"
The Legal Aid Society of National Law University,Tripura organized a powerful nukkad natak (street play) titled ‘Aurat Ki Awaz’ at Albert Park on October 9 last.
The event aimed to raise awareness about women's rights, focusing on domestic violence, which can be both mental and physical. The program was designed to educate women about their legal rights and empower them to take action if they face abuse. The play highlighted key laws that protect women, such as the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005, which ensures legal protection and support for women facing violence at home. Other important laws discussed included the Hindu Marriage Act, which addresses issues related to marriage and divorce, and provisions under sections 85 and 86 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), offering legal recourse for women in cases of domestic violence.
Ms. Dipika Jamatia, the faculty advisor of the Legal Aid Society, played a key role in organizing the event and spoke about the importance of legal knowledge for women. She emphasized that understanding their rights is the first step toward empowerment and ensuring justice. The event drew a large audience, including women from the local community, who actively participated in the discussions that followed the performance. The nukkad natak was a success, spreading the message that every woman has a right to live free from violence and that legal systems are in place to protect them. This initiative demonstrated the commitment of the Legal Aid Society at NLU Tripura to promote awareness of women's rights and to educate the community about important legal protections available to them.
