Most wanted mastermind of bike lifting gang arrested with 7 more thieves
The Agartala city police on Friday achieved a significant success by arresting the mastermind and most wanted motorbike lifter along with his associates and has also recovered many stolen items under their possessions including motorbikes.
Giving details, SDPO(Sadar) Debaprasad Roy said that the East Agartala police station during investigation of a gold chain snatching incident, have recovered some credential evidence of snatching and bike lifting network.
Based on the investigation, the police team led by OC of East Agartala police station, Rana Chatterjee managed to arrest the mastermind of bike lifting network and most wanted criminal, Khitish Sarkar on Thursday night, said Roy.
As per the interrogation statement of arrested Khitish Sarkar, who was wanted against four permanent warrants, police managed to arrest two more bike lifters, identified as Binay Sen and Amit Debbarma and recovered a stolen motorbike under their possessions with fake registration number.
He said that these trio bike lifters, recently committed many gold chain snatching crimes and they used stolen motorbikes during chain snatching. Roy added that this gang of snatchers during the past few months had committed many snatching incidents and on Friday they were produced before a local court with police remand appeals for further interrogation.
He hoped that the police team will be able to identify other associates of this bike lifter gang and will be able to recover other stolen bikes and gold ornaments.
In another incident, the West Agartala police station arrested a group of five thieves, who were involved with robbery of batteries from the inverter from Sadar court complex.
Roy said that police have arrested a group of five thieves and recovered two stolen high voltage batteries and 62 Banarasi sarees under their possessions, worth Rs. 3.5 Lakh.
