New techniques to stole gold jewellery, thief gang busted, one arrest
The Agartala city police busted a gang of thieves and recovered some stolen gold jewelleries with the arrest of one gang leader, who adopted newer methods and techniques to loot valuable items from a renowned jewellery shop.
Giving details, officer-in-charge (OC) of East Agartala police station, Rana Chatterjee said that authorities of Shyam Sundar Co Jewellers registered an FIR at the police that a customer had stolen away some gold ornaments leaving imitation items.
He said that a man had entered the shop that day with an imitated bangle and ring in his pocket. On the pretext of seeing a new golden bangle and ring in the shop the man replaced the new and pure ones in the shop with his imitated and fake items and left the Jewellery shop without purchasing anything.
The matter soon drew the attention of the shop-owner and after checking what had happened in the CCTV camera the shop owner reported this to the East Agartala police station, said Chatterjee.
He said that a police team had collected the CCTV footage from the shop and based on the intelligent inputs, they managed to arrest one gang leader of thieves, identified as Rajat Saha of Moloynagar under Srinagar police station and had also recovered some stolen gold items under his possessions.
He confessed having committed the theft and the arrested thief has been produced before local court under section 305A/C13 of BNS with police remand appeal.
Chatterjee said that a gang of thieves are involved with many stolen incidents in and around the city and often they adopt new techniques to commit the crimes. He hoped that with the interrogation statement of the arrested thief, police would be able to arrest the remaining gang members.
