Nine inter-state drug peddlers arrested from Agartala station with contraband cough syrups
In another successful operation, the Government Railway police (GRP) and along with RPF has managed to detain a gang of inter-state drug smugglers from Agartala Railway station and seized 15,000 bottles of contraband cough syrup Eskuf under their possessions.
Giving details, OC of GRP station of Agartala Railway station, Tapash Das said that based on secret information, police and RPF laid a trap at Agartala railway station and when a long distance train coming from other states of the country, police detained nine suspected inter-state drug gang members.
During a search in their 50 baggage, GRP recovered a total of 15,000 bottles of Eskuf syrups under their possessions, worth Rs. 25 lakh.
Das said that nine drug peddlers including two from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh states were identified as Amit Kumar Srivastab (30) of West Champaran district of Bihar, Chintu Yadav (23) of Balia district of Uttar Pradesh and seven other gang members are from different parts of Tripura, identified as Suman Miah (24), Chutan Deb (36), Aktar Hossain (24), Rajib Sutradhar (37), Majarul Islam (35), Chan Miah (54) and Prasenjit Das (23).
He said that all arrested drug peddlers were produced before a local court in a case registered under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act 1985 with police remand appeals for interrogation.
OC said that they are very much hopeful that with the arrest of nine drug peddlers, police will be able to arrest other members of the gang involved with interstate drug smuggling.
