One infamous land mafia arrested by Agartala police for extortion threat
In a significant development, an infamous land mafia, engaged in many illegal activities in and around Agartala has been arrested by East Agartala police station on Wednesday for extortion.
Giving details, SDPO (Sadar) Debaprasad Roy and OC of East Agartala police station, Rana Chatterjee said that one Apu Rani Sarkar of Chandrapur area on October 20 lodged a complaint before the police station that land mafia Paresh Ghosh of Chandpur area under same police station has demanded Rs. 2 crore as extortion for land sale.
Based on the complaint, police on Wednesday managed to arrest accused Paresh Ghosh for his residence and forwarded him before a local court with five days police remand appeals for interrogation.
SDPO, Debaprasad Roy said that a specific FIR under different sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023 for organized crime has been framed against him.
He said that the court has granted a three-day police remand and the investigation team will unearth all details of his nexus with land deals and his extortion network.
Police also said that though, the accused running a business in his name and now police will verify his business and all assets belongings to him along with his income sources, whether these procured assets earned through extortion or through business.
