Online cab services will be launched at Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport, Agartala Railway Station and Jogendranagar Railway Station from September 3, Tripura Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury announced on Friday.
The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by the Transport Minister at the Civil Secretariat to review the implementation of online cab services and other transport-related issues. Representatives of transport workers' unions and officials from various departments attended the meeting.
Speaking after the meeting, Chowdhury said the introduction of online cab services at the state's major transport hubs would greatly benefit passengers travelling within and outside Tripura. He assured that the government would not tolerate any irregularities in the operation of the services.
The Minister said fare rates would be finalized after consultations with different auto-rickshaw unions. The government would carefully consider their suggestions to ensure that fares remain reasonable and that passengers are not subjected to excessive charges.
Emphasizing the need for modernizing the transport sector, Chowdhury said the government aims to provide a convenient and transparent transport system in line with public demand. He urged all stakeholders to embrace digital technology and cooperate in implementing the new system.
The Minister also stressed the need to install modern CCTV surveillance systems at Jogendranagar Railway Station to strengthen passenger safety and improve security arrangements. Several other transport-related issues were also discussed during the meeting.
The meeting was attended by Transport Department Secretary Uttam Kumar Chakma, senior officials of the Transport and Police departments, representatives of Agartala and Jogendranagar Railway Stations, office-bearers of various auto-rickshaw unions, and representatives of Ola Ride, Uber and other transport service providers.
