PCEE conducts statutory inspection of railway electrification of Agartala – Sabroom section

The Principal Chief Electrical Engineer (PCEE) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) successfully conducted a statutory inspection of the Agartala – Sabroom section of the Lumding Division on Saturday. This inspection marks a major milestone in the approval process for introducing commercial services under 25 KV electric traction, a significant step toward modernizing railway infrastructure in the region.
Spanning 112.91 RKM and 135.40 TKM on a single-line (UP/DN) section, this electrification project is crucial for improving railway operations. The statutory inspection by the PCEE is a mandatory prerequisite to ensure safety and operational compliance before commencing full-scale commercial train services under electric traction.
The electrification of this section includes key electrical infrastructure such as Sub-Sectioning and Paralleling Posts at Bishramganj, Santirbazar, and Jolaibari as well as a Traction Substation at Udaipur. These installations play a critical role in ensuring a stable and efficient power supply for train operations in the region.
The electrification of the Agartala – Sabroom section is a key initiative under Indian Railways' broader vision to enhance operational efficiency, reduce fossil fuel dependency and minimize environmental impact. Transitioning to electric traction will significantly lower carbon emissions, offering a sustainable and eco-friendly alternative to diesel locomotives. Additionally, electric trains will improve speed, reliability and travel time, making railway operations more energy-efficient and cost-effective. This advancement is expected to boost passenger and freight transport, ensuring smoother and faster services while contributing to the region’s economic growth and connectivity.
The successful completion of this project will drive trade, tourism and industrial development by enabling seamless freight movement and quicker transportation of goods and raw materials. Passengers will benefit from enhanced travel comfort and service reliability, while businesses will gain from more efficient logistics. As part of Indian Railways’ mission to achieve 100% broad-gauge electrification, this initiative aligns with the Government of India’s commitment to sustainable and efficient transport solutions. Moving forward, the Northeast Frontier Railway remains committed to infrastructure modernization through electrification projects, station upgrades and improved passenger amenities, ensuring a more advanced, eco-friendly and efficient railway network for the north-eastern region.
