School students acted as police officers for a day to understand policing
As part of celebration of Tripura Police Week-2025 and to motivate young generation about policing and functioning of police stations, the West Tripura district police on Monday invited students from various state government schools at police stations and SP(West) office and allow them to act like police officers.
The event provided a comprehensive understanding of police operations and the process of handling public complaints, nurturing a sense of trust and cooperation between the police and community.
A school girl, Tabassum Chakraborty, who acted as SP of West Tripura district on Monday morning arrived at the office with escort and full dress like SP.
She was given salutes by her subordinate officers and in presence of incumbent SP(West) Kiran Kumar, she sat in the chair of SP.
While speaking with media persons, the young girl said “ I am very happy as my childhood dream today fulfill and perform as an IPS officer.”
Tabassum Chakraborty said that she wants to be an IPS officer and wants to provide justice to victims of crime against women. “ If I have been an IPS officer, my first priority is to provide justice to women and will take more concrete steps to reduce the crime against women from our society,” said Chakraborty and added that her aim will be to ensure equal rights to all.
SP(West) Kiran Kumar said that this event has been arranged to educate school students over daily activities of police forces and their policing is going on to maintain law and order situation in the society. The event also motivated the young students to pursue their career as police officers, said Kumar.
Additionally, students were educated on topics such as crimes involving children, means to secure Women’s safety, precautions to be taken while using social media, adherence to Traffic rules, Anti-drug laws etc, said Kumar.
Meanwhile, in another event at AD Nagar police station, the OC said during the awareness camp, the students were introduced to various aspects of police work, including the daily responsibilities and challenges faced by police officers
They learned about the processes involved in receiving and addressing complaints, giving them a clear picture of how complainants are treated and how their grievances are managed. This hands-on educational approach helped the student to know the functioning of police forces and allow them to act like a police officer.
