Stabbing incident in mobile shop: Injured killer Rahul Roy dies
Killer, Rahul Krishna Roy (35), who was in a daring stabbing incident amidst huge crowds during immersion of Goddess Durga stabbed a mobile shop owner on October 15 last at Melarmath area of Agartala died on Wednesday at GB Hospital after battling for life for last eight days.
On Tuesday (October 15) evening amidst huge crowds over the ongoing immersion of Goddess Durga, in a bizarre and daring incident, mobile shop owner Hari Shankar Saha (64) of Agartala’s Melarmath area was stabbed by an insane youth (Rahul) and seriously injured him.
On October 17 (Thursday), injured trader after battling for life for 48 hours died at GB Hospital due to his critical wounds and after eight days, assailant, Rahul, who had suffered critical injuries after crowd manhandled him.
The videos of an incident of stabbing multiple times to a mobile shop owner inside his shop at crowded Melarmath areas creates massive reaction across the state.
During the stabbing incident, two TSR personnel rushed to the spot and they somehow rescued the injured man Hari Shankar Saha (64) from a pool of blood and shifted him to IGM Hospital. By the time, onlookers and some local youths had also manhandled the assailant, Rahul Roy.
The incident triggered massive panic among the revellers, who were standing on both sides of Hari Ganga Basak (HGB) Road, waiting for the glimpses of immersion of Goddess and within minutes, devotees amidst hue and cry left the spot.
SP (West Tripura) Kiran Kumar said that four TSR jawans of 7th battalion posted at that area have been closed for dereliction of duty and an enquiry has been ordered.
He said that a SDPO level enquiry has been ordered to find out the role of police and TSR personnel posted at that area.
Kiran Kumar said that as per preliminary investigations, police found that assailant Rahul Roy was a mentally ill person and had some financial transaction with the mobile shop owner, Hari Shankar Saha. On Tuesday (October 15) evening, the assailant entered the shop with a sharp weapon and after a heated altercation; he started stabbing the sexagenarian man.
He said that the West Agartala police station has registered a specific FIR over the incident and people who were responsible for manhandling the accused youth will also not be spared and police will take all legal action against them.
