Stolen jewelleries of Goddess Durga from an MLA house recovered; one thief arrested
In another successful operation, Agartala city police on Wednesday arrested a thief involved with looting of valuable gold ornaments from clay made of the idol of Goddess Durga from a Congress MLA house.
Giving details, SDPO(Sadar) Debaprasad Roy said that on the night of ‘Vijaya Dashami’ (October 13), thieves looted away all valuable gold and silver jewelleries from the body of Goddess Durga, worshiped at the house of Congress MLA Gopal Chandra Roy in Jagaharimure under East Agartala police station.
On October 14 morning, MLA Gopal Roy lodged a complaint before police and City police had formed a team led by OC of East Agartala police station Rana Chatterjee to recover all stolen items and to arrest thieves involved in the daring incident, said Roy.
On Wednesday morning, the police investigation team managed to arrest one thief from the same locality and recovered gold and silver jewelleries worth about Rs. 5 lakh under his possession, said Roy.
He said that few more stolen jewelleries yet to be recovered and the arrested thief has been produced before a local court with police remand appeal for further interrogation to recover other jewelleries and to arrest other thieves involved in the incident.
