Sushanta urges Railway minister to start passengers, goods trains from Agartala-Kolkata via Bangladesh
The Transport Minister of Tripura on Thursday urged the Union Railway Minister to start the regular passengers and good trains’ services from Agartala to Kolkata via Dhaka and Agartala to Chittagong in Bangladesh through newly inaugurated Agartala-Akhaura rail link.
Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury in a letter to the Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has demanded electrification of the entire tranck from Badarpur to Sabroom and conversion of existing single line rail track into double line track.
Chowdhury in his letter highly appreciating the commendable works of Union Railway Ministry over infrastructure development and extension of Kanchanjungha Express from Agartala to southern part of the state, Sabroom said that by resolving the pending issues of Railways to Tripura will greatly contribute to the socio-economic development of Tripura’s people.
Chowdhury also demands for introduction of additional daily passenger trains on Agartala-Dharmanagar route with increases in the number of coaches in local DEMUs.
He also urged for introduction of Agartala-Guwahati inter-city train services, Agartala-Jammu, Agartala-Puri express and Agartala-Gaya direct train services.
The Transport Minister also requested the Union Railway Minister to start the construction work for alternative railway connectivity from Pecharthal-Kailashahar-Dharmanagar (41.75 km) and Dharmanagar to Belonia via Kailashahar, Kamalpur, Khowai and Agartala (178.72 km) and Belonia-Feni (Bangladesh) rail link.
