Ten Rohingyas including children arrested from Kailashahar before their exfiltration to BD

Amidst continuous infiltration by Bangladeshi and Rohingyas through different borders of Tripura, on Saturday morning 10 Rohingyas including four children and six women were arrested from a house of tout by police personnel from Irani police station of Kailashahar under Unakoti district before their exfiltration bid.

Police sources said based on specific information, police raided a house in the Safirikandi area under Irani police station on Saturday morning and arrested ten unknown people and brought them to police station.

During initial interrogation, the police confirmed that the ten arrested are residents of Myanmar. Out of the ten arrested, six are adult women, while the remaining four include a 50-day-old baby and three children aged one, four and seven.

Police added that ten arrested Rohingyas left Hyderabad city by train on January 13 and reached Dharmanagar station on January 16. On the evening of January 16, a tout  of Safarikandi area of Kailashahar brought them from Dharmanagar station to his house and gave them shelter before their exfiltration to Bangladesh.

The police also said that the ten arrested people had been staying at that tout’s house in Safarikandi area, an area adjacent to the India-Bangladesh international border, for two days to go to Bangladesh.

During a police raid, a human trafficker managed to escape from the spot and police launched a search operation to arrest him.

During preliminary interrogation, arrested Rohingyas revealed that they all came together from Hyderabad. The men probably illegally crossed the India-Bangladesh international border from Safarikandi area on January 17 with the help of tout.

Police suspect that tout had planned to bring the rest into Bangladesh within the next one or two days.

Police also learnt that all of them had entered Kailashahar from Bangladesh through the India-Bangladesh international border in the Safarikandi area and went to Hyderabad eight years ago. They had been staying in Hyderabad for the past eight years. Recently, as per the announcement of the central government, police operations started in the metro cities of India.

After police operations in Hyderabad, Rohingyas living illegally got scared and came to Kailashahar to go back to Bangladesh.

Police added that on Saturday afternoon all arrested Rohingyas including their children were produced before a local court for further legal proceedings.
