A daring theft at a government office under the Water Resources Division of the Public Works Department (PWD) in Teliamura subdivision under Khowai district has raised serious concerns over the security of the government establishments.

Sources said that  a group of unidentified thieves broke into the government office late on Tuesday night by breaking the locks and made away with several valuable government assets used for official work.

Although Wednesday was a government holiday on account of Kharchi Puja, a few employees visited the office for official work and discovered that the main entrance lock had been broken. After informing other staff members, they found that not only the main gate but also the locks of every office room, locker, and cupboard had been broken, with the premises thoroughly ransacked.

During an inspection, officials found that three Android mobile phones used for official purposes, several motors, and other important government equipment had been stolen.

A complaint has been lodged with Teliamura police station. However, according to the latest information available at the time of filing this report, police has started investigation.

The incident has sparked concern among local residents, who questioned the safety of public property if even government offices are vulnerable to such thefts. Employees of the department have demanded a thorough investigation, the immediate arrest of those responsible, and the recovery of the stolen government property.
