Traffic personnel abused: Specific FIR lodged, one of 3 miscreant again arrested
Amidst massive protest and criticism across Tripura over insulting and abusing to two on-duty traffic police personnel by a group of 3 miscreants in Agartala, the capital city police again on Saturday arrested one of the prime accused under different sections of BNS and SC,ST Atrocities Act.
Couple days ago, in a bizarre incident a group of miscreants severally abused with racial slurs two on-duty Traffic personnel at busiest Netaji Chowmuhani area of Agartala and the viral video, taken my some onlookers has run by some facebook channels has created massive reaction among netigens.
The viral video also reflected growing resentment among city dwellers over hooliganism by a section of youths across Agartala, who were often, violated traffic rules and even they were not ready to pay heed to police personnel on duty.
Initially, based on the complaint by Traffic police, the West Agartala police station detained two miscreants including Diptanu Das and Deep Datta, but reluctant OC of police station, Paritosh Das released the miscreants on bail under a Motor Vehicle Act. But, he and other senior officers did not lodge any Suo-Moto FIR over the incident, in which miscreants had also abused an on-duty traffic constable with racial slurs.
On Saturday, opposition Congress and its Sadar district committee led by Md Sahajan Islam staged a gheraoed in front of SDPO (Sadar) office demanding immediate arrest of all miscreants involved with abuse of traffic personnel. A tribal youth has also staged a protest at Vivekananda stadium demanding legal action against all miscreants.
Tipra-Motha supremo Pradyot Kishore Debbarma through his social media has also condemned the incident and after the arrest of one miscreant said “Well done! More to follow hopefully. I was assured by the police now if similar action is taken then the public is assured.
Meanwhile, speaking with media persons on Saturday afternoon at West Agartala police station, SP(West Tripura) Kiran Kumar said that police on Saturday has lodged a Suo-Moto FIR under section 132/351/(2)(3)/3(5) of BNS and section 3(1)(r)(s) of the Scheduled Castes and The Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act 1989.
He said that the arrested miscreant has been identified as Deep Datta of Bardowali area and police has also launched search operation to arrest other accused involved with the incident, in which a video surfaced on social media showing a hot altercation between two traffic personnel and some youths.
