Tripura assembly elections to be held on 3rd week of February, CEO. Draft electoral rolls published, 27,33,891 voters in list
The ensuing assembly elections to Tripura will be held in the third week of February, 2023 next and there are possibilities that counting of polled votes will be held on the last day of February, said Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Tripura.
Addressing a press conference here at Civil Secretariat on Wednesday afternoon , CEO, Tripura Kiran Gitte publishing the Draft Electoral rolls as based year of January 1st, 2023 said that the calendars of Election Commission of India (ECI) has been fixed and before the assembly elections for Meghalaya and Mizoram states, there are strong chances that assembly elections for Tripura will be held in the third week of February next and counting of votes will be held in the last days of the February as Central Paramilitary Forces (CPMFs) will be deployed first in Tripura, then they will move for Mizoram and for Meghalaya states. He hoped that the ensuing assembly elections for Tripura would be held in a single phase.
While, as per the draft electoral rolls, the state has 27,33,891 voters in 60 Assembly constituencies as per the Draft Electoral roll which was published on Wednesday, of which 13,80,181 are male voters, 13,53,664 female voters and 46 third gender voters. As per draft electoral rolls, the state has 10,165 service voters including 184 female and copies of draft rolls are available in all 3,328 polling stations, all Tehsil offices along with the offices of all SDMs and DMs.
He said that with the publication of draft electoral rolls, claims and objections will be allowed from November 9th to till December 8 while the ECI will conduct special campaigns on November 19, 20 and December 3 and 4. The claim and objection in respect to the draft rolls will be settled on December 26 and the final voter list will be published on January 5th, 2023 next, said Gitte.
Gitte said that all the SDMs were asked to conduct special camps in all the degree colleges to get the eligible voters enrolled in the voters list and the people who will complete their 18 years of age by January 1st, 2023 will be enrolled in the photo electoral rolls.
Gitte said that when Bru migrants are resettled in the designated spots, as soon as the ECI will start their enrollment in EPIC and ECI has also instructed for their 100% enrollment.
The ECI has cussed on for preparation of error free electoral rolls in order to conduct the election in a free and fair manner, he said and added that he had already held meetings with the political parties to get feedback on the election preparation. The CEO said that the Commission closely monitors the law and order situation of the state and has also issued necessary instructions to avoid political clashes.
Gitte also said by next 10 days, a team of ECI will arrive in the state to review the election preparedness including roll revision process.
