The three-day Monsoon Session of the Tripura Legislative Assembly will commence on Thursday and is expected to witness heated exchanges between the treasury and opposition benches ahead of the upcoming Village Committee (VC) elections under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).
The opposition, along with ruling ally Tipra Motha Party (TMP) legislators, is expected to raise a range of issues, including the deteriorating condition of roads across the state, rising prices of essential commodities, law and order, and alleged attacks on opposition workers.
Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman's notice for a short-duration discussion on the installation of smart electricity meters and related billing issues has already been admitted. Additional notices on various public issues may also be submitted before the House begins its proceedings.
The session is expected to focus on public grievances, development-related matters and other issues concerning the state.
The agenda and schedule for the session were finalized during a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) held on August 21 at the Assembly complex under the chairmanship of Speaker Rampada Jamatia. The committee reviewed the proposed business, duration of the session and logistical arrangements.
During the meeting, discussions were also held on the proposed transition to a paperless Assembly. However, Speaker Jamatia said the initiative would take some more time before being implemented.
The Speaker said the Assembly will meet on August 27, 28 and conclude its sitting on August 31. He also informed that no government Bill has been listed for introduction so far, although legislation may be introduced during the course of the session.
Jamatia, however, declined to disclose further details regarding the business scheduled for the three-day session of the House.
