The Tripura Legislative Assembly on Monday passed four important Bills during the second half of the ongoing Monsoon Session, including legislation relating to open schooling, Sri Sri University, ease of doing business and amendments to the State Goods and Services Tax (SGST) Act.
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha moved ‘The Board of Open Schooling and Examination, Tripura Bill, 2026’ (Tripura Bill No. 14 of 2026) in the House. Explaining the objective of the Bill, he said it seeks to provide educational opportunities to students who have dropped out of the formal education system, enabling them to continue their studies through an alternative platform.
The Chief Minister said the initiative is in line with the National Education Policy and would help ensure that no student is deprived of education. He added that the legislation would contribute to the vision of building a developed Tripura and a developed India by 2047. The Bill was passed by a voice vote after a discussion in which Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury and MLAs Gopal Chandra Roy and Shailendra Chandra Nath took part.
The House also passed The ‘Sri Sri University, Tripura Bill, 2026’ (Tripura Bill No. 15 of 2026), which was introduced by Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy. The Bill was approved after deliberations involving Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury and MLAs Gopal Chandra Roy, Ashok Chandra Mitra and Dipankar Sen.
In addition, the Assembly unanimously passed The Tripura Ease of Doing Business Bill, 2026 (Tripura Bill No. 10 of 2026), introduced by Industries and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma.
The House also unanimously approved The Tripura State Goods and Services Tax (Tenth Amendment) Bill, 2026 (Tripura Bill No. 12 of 2026), which was introduced by Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy. MLA Gopal Chandra Roy participated in the discussion on the Bill before it was passed.
