A Judicial Magistrate court in Gandacherra and an Additional Sessions Judge court in Dharmanagar on Wednesday convicted two Bangladeshi nationals in separate cases under the Immigration and Foreigners Act.
Police sources said that in the first case, the Judicial Magistrate 1st Class, Gandacherra under Dhalai district, sentenced Abdul Alim (25), a resident of Fatema Nagar under Panchari police station in Khagrachari of Bangladesh, to five months of simple imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000. In default of payment, he will have to undergo an additional 20 days of simple imprisonment.
According to police, Alim was apprehended on May 22, 2026, at Sarat Kumar Para (Dyke-VIII) under Raishyabari police station based on secret information. A Bangladeshi National ID was recovered from his possession, but he failed to produce valid documents showing his legal entry into India. Following investigation, police submitted a charge sheet, and the trial court subsequently convicted him.
In the second case, the Additional Sessions Judge, Court No. 2, Dharmanagar under North Tripura, sentenced Md. Harun, a resident of Pokia under Patuakhali of Bangladesh, to five months of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000. In default of payment, he will have to undergo 15 days of simple imprisonment.
Police said Harun was detained by Churaibari police station of the same district personnel on May 21, 2026, at Laxminagar near the market after receiving secret information. During questioning, he reportedly disclosed that he had illegally entered India from Bangladesh about a month earlier and had been residing under the false identity of “Ripan Das.” He failed to produce a valid passport, visa or other documents.
Following investigation, Churaibari Police submitted a charge sheet on July 18, 2026. The trial court found Harun guilty and sentenced him accordingly.
