Two days rains brings respite from prevailing heat wave, moderate rainfall to continue on Friday

As Tripura continuous witnessing the scorching heat with dry spell in the pre-norwester season before Wednesday (April 16), specially hot and humid weather condition for last months, which has made life miserable in the state, the rain and thunderstorm with lightning has also continues on Thursday also and give respite to the people in most of the districts of Tripura.

The Agartala station of Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast for light to moderate rain and thundershower across the state for Friday also.

It may be recalled here that barring Agartala, major parts of the state witnessed Norwester seasonal rain  in the last few days and Agartala received light rainfall on Wednesday for the first time in 2025.

Significantly, around 5 km radius of Agartala-housing near about 10 lakh population has not recorded any measurable rainfall in the last four months, resulting in an increase of dust particles in the air, abnormal growth of mosquitoes and a drop of ground water level.

While, on Thursday the mercury hovered around 31 degrees Celsius in large parts of the state and  the IMD at Agartala has predicted  generally cloudy sky, light to moderate rain and thundershower is very likely to occur in some areas of the state.

Director of IMD, Agartala station, Dr Partha Roy(Scientist-C) said that thunderstorms with lightning and gusty wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph  are very likely to occur at one or two places over North, Unakoti and Dhalai districts of Tripura. He said that thunderstorms with lightning are very likely to occur at one or two places over the rest of the state.

As Tripura is reeling under intense heat along with other parts of the region during past few weeks and Tripura recorded deficit rainfall in past two weeks , giving details of next seven days weather prediction, the IMD, Agartala station said that the rainfall will be normal across the state with heavy rainfall with thunderstorm and lighting..

India Meteorological Department (IMD) sources said that the cloudy weather and light rain may provide some relief from the heat in Tripura on Friday  and Saturday also.

The day temperatures decrease by a few notches at 31 degrees Celsius in Agartala, which is lesser than normal temperature at this time of the year.  Similarly, other parts of the state also witnessed scorching heat during the past fortnight. The city remained moderately cold on Thursday  with relative humidity at about 85 percent and recorded a minimum temperature of 21.6 degrees Celsius with minimum departure of minus 1.3 degrees Celsius.
