Two drug peddlers including a woman arrested with drugs
In two separate raids in two separate districts of the state, Tripura police on Sunday arrested two drug paddlers and recovered a good amount of drugs under their possessions.
Police sources said that personnel from Teliamura police had specific information that some middle aged women were engaged for transportation of drug consignment and based on the information, a contingent of police laid a trap at Chakmaghat market area on Sunday afternoon.
Police noticed a middle aged woman was moving in that area suspiciously and they detained her. In the course of the search operation, police recovered 73 vials filled with Brown Sugar, which has a worth of Rs. 25,000, said SDPO (Teliamura) Prasun Tripura.
He said that the woman drug peddler was identified as Laxmi Debnath (55) of Grandiose club area of Agartala , who often came to Chakmaghat area to sell her consignment of drugs.
Tripura also said that Teliamura police have registered a Suo-Moto FIR under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 (NDPS Act) and started investigation to arrest smugglers involved with this racket.
In another case, BSF personnel posted in the Rajnagar area of South Tripura district detained a drug peddler with 75 bottles of contraband cough syrup ‘Excough’ from bordering areas of Radhanagar and handed over to police.
Police said that the detained drug peddler was identified as Arjun Tripura, who was arrested by PR Bari police station under NDPS Act case.
