Two more minors drown in shallow pit dug in a kiln at Simna
In another heartrending incident, two minor girls drowned in a dig inside a kiln at Simna area of West Tripura on Friday afternoon during heavy Monsoon rain, when they were trying to catch fishes in a shallow pit dug in a field for kiln.
A police official from Sidhai police station under West Tripura district deceased minor girls were identified as Laxmi (16) and Manabi (11), who were neighbour situated inside a tea garden area had gone out to catch fishes from rain water near their home on Friday afternoon during heavy Monsoon rain, but did not return home.
When they were catching fishes, both girls fell into a big dug in the field of a kiln and they started sinking in the rain water.
Later, some other children of that area noticed the incident and amidst hue and cry, their parents and other neighbours rushed to the spot and rescued them.
They were immediately shifted to Katlamara primary Health centre (PHC), where a visiting doctor declared them brought dead.
After the information of the tragic incident, police personnel from Sidhai police station rushed to PHC and shifted both bodies to Mohanpur hospital for autopsy and on Saturday morning after post-mortem, both bodies were handed over to the relatives.
Police added that they by registering an unnatural death (UD) case started an investigation.
It may be recalled here that on May 17, 2025 last two minor children of a family -- both brother and sister -- Prasenjit Debnath (11) and his younger sister Priyanka Debnath (7) drowned to death near a school at Purba Chandmari area in West Tripura.
Both had gone out to play near their home in the Purba Chandmari area on May 17 afternoon, but did not return home.
Krishna Debnath, the father of the kids, told the police that after a thorough search, he did not locate the children. The anxious parents of the children looked for them in nearby areas and also informed the police. There was, however, no trace of the missing children until Sunday morning.
On MAY 18 afternoon, two workers engaged in the construction of a building near the school saw two dead bodies of the children in a shallow pit dug for sinking a water pump.
After that tragic incident, local people alleged that due to the negligence and inefficiencies of the construction company and the contractors, the ditch was created, and a huge waterlogged hole in the ground, which caused the drowning of the minor children.
