Two tree cutters died after big trees fall on their bodies

In two separate incidents, two day-labourers died on the spot after big trees fell on their bodies, who were engaged in the cutting of trees in Dharmanagar and Panisagar areas of North Tripura district on Monday.

Sources said that one day labourer, identified as Kuti Malakar (35) of Udarbandha Shalganga village of Silchar came to North Haruya village of Kadamtala under North Tripura district for his livelihood and engaged with cutting of trees for last ten days in the same village.

On Monday morning, Kuti Malakar along with three other labourers were assigned to cut a big Jamun tree at the house of one Sanjoy Nandit at the ward number-6 of North Haruya village. Kuti Malakar when busy with cutting of a big Jamun tree with other workers inadvertently fell down under the tree and suffered critical injuries in many parts of his body.

The inmates of the house along with other workers and firefighters shifted him to North District hospital, where a visiting doctor declared him brought dead.

Later, police shifted the body to hospital morgue for autopsy and after completion of post-mortem, the mortal remains of deceased worker handed over to his relatives for last rites.

In another similar incident, another tree cutting worker also died on the spot and after a big Mango tree fell on his body at Pekucherra village of Panisagar under North Tripura district.

Police said that two labourers, identified as Nazrul Hoq (45) and Shankar Nath (18) of Beltai village were busy with cutting of a big Mango tree with cutter machine at the house of one Ranjit Nath at the ward number-5 of Pekucherra village.

When both of them were busy cutting the tree with a help cutter, they could not notice the depth of the cutting the root of the tree and all of sudden it collapsed on the body of Nazrul Hoq. Amidst hue and cry, local people rushed to the spot and they informed the firefighters of the incident. Firefighters, with the help of local villagers, somehow managed to rescue the body from the debris of the tree after one hour.

Later, the body of the deceased labourer was shifted to a local hospital morgue for autopsy and police registered an unnatural death case, started an investigation.
