Union MoS reviews welfare schemes, stresses on women empowerment
In order to review the progress of various public welfare schemes started by the government of India, the Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs, Tokhan Sahu attended a meeting with district-level officers at Khowai district on Friday.
‘This visit acted as a powerful reminder of the importance of women's empowerment and it also showed that if one is self-reliant then it can build a more resilient and prosperous society,’ said Tokhan Sahu.
Tokhan Sahu talked with some distressed women, at the old age home cum shelter established under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya National Urban Livelihood Mission at first and then he added that it is Prime Minister Narendra Modi's commitment who makes sure that of welfare of women is a priority and assured them that government will continue to support them.
Tokhan Sahu visited the Indo-Bangladesh border fence and met the BSF personnel, recognized their effort and dedication to national security. A house warming ceremony was also attended by him and the ribbon of the house was cut by him. The house was given to a person who is a beneficiary of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. The beneficiary, accompanied by local officials and the residents, showed her appreciation and showered the Minister with flowers in a traditional warm greeting.
The Minister inaugurated an exhibition organized by self-help group members at the newly constructed Khowai bus stand as well. Women shared their transformative progress in their social and economic condition, detailing how government support has empowered them to become job creators rather than job seekers. Tokhan Sahu inspected the Tertiary Centre for Solid Waste established under the Swachh Bharat Mission, where he interacted with self-help group sisters who are running the center and generating additional income by processing plastic waste and organic waste through machines.
He added that it was inspiring to hear the story of power and self-reliance of sisters in the community. He also tweeted that the women are playing pivotal roles in uplifting their families and communities through their entrepreneurial spirit, leadership, and determination.
