A woman was robbed of a gold chain while travelling along the National Highway near Bishalgarh College on Wednesday afternoon.

Sources said that the incident occurred when Jagriti Chowdhury Paul and her husband were travelling by scooter from Subhash Nagar in Agartala to visit a relative’s house in Bishalgarh under Sepahijala district. When they reached the National Highway near Bishalgarh College, unidentified miscreants allegedly snatched a gold chain weighing around two ‘bhori’ from Jagriti Chowdhury Paul’s neck and fled from the spot.

Following the incident, a snatching case was lodged at Bishalgarh police station. After receiving information, police personnel from Bishalgarh police station rushed to the spot and began an investigation.

Local residents have alleged that incidents of theft and snatching have increased in the Bishalgarh area over the past several years, causing growing concern among residents. Questions have also been raised over the effectiveness of policing in preventing such incidents.

Residents have urged the authorities to take effective measures to curb the rising incidents of theft and snatching and ensure greater security in the area.
