Youth found dead mysteriously in a locked room at Akhaura Road
A body of a youth was recovered in mysterious condition from a house located at Akhaura Road area of Agartala on Sunday, triggering widespread concern in the locality. The deceased has been identified as Shubhagata Chakraborty alias Abhijit, a resident of Renters Colony.
Police sources, Abhijit had visited Ratan Chowdhury’s house in Akhaura Road last night to discuss financial matters but did not return home that night and was found dead on Sunday morning in a room that was locked from the inside.
On Sunday morning, after being informed the police personnel from West Agartala Police Station rushed to the spot and sent his hanging body for autopsy to determine the cause of death as well as they took the house owner Chowdhury into custody for questioning.
Meanwhile, the deceased’s family members alleged that Abhijit was murdered over financial disputes. They rejected the possibility of suicide, questioning why Abhijit stayed overnight at Chowdhury's house. They claim he was last seen alive when he went to discuss some financial dealings, possibly related to land transactions with the house owner.
Adding to the mystery, Abhijit's colleagues reported that someone else had been answering his phone calls since Saturday afternoon, but they could not identify the person.
On the other hand, house owner Chowdhury claimed that he and Abhijit had slept in adjacent rooms and he found Abhijit’s room locked from the inside when he woke up in the next morning and assumed it to be a case of suicide. Chowdhury acknowledged that he had financial transactions with Abhijit, and they had a discussion in the previous night that was related to a land deal.
Speaking to the reporters, the West Agartala Police Station Officer-In-Charge (OC) Paritosh Das informed that when they arrived at the scene, they found the room locked from the inside and had to break open the door to recover the body. An investigation into the suspicious death has been initiated and officers questioning everyone present at the location. He added that till findings of the autopsy report, they can’t say anything specifically over the nature of the death.
Meanwhile, the family and colleagues of the deceased have demanded a thorough investigation, insisting that Abhijit was murdered. The police have detained Ratan Chowdhury for further interrogation as part of their ongoing probe into the incident.
