Egg prices touch 400 PKR per dozen in Lahore as Pakistan's struggle to contain inflation continues
Prices of daily commodities are burning the pockets of consumers in inflation-hit Pakistan where they are now paying 400 Pakistani Rupees (PKR) to buy a dozen eggs in Lahore city.
The local administration has failed to enforce the government rate list so far.
Sources told The Nation the onions are being sold between Rs230 to Rs250 per kg against the government’s fixed rate of Rs175 per kg in the city.
Not only eggs but even chicken is currently sold in Lahore for Rs. 615 per kg.
Last month, the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) directed the National Price Monitoring Committee (NPMC) to continue regular coordination with the provincial governments for measures to ensure price stability and to check hoarding and profiteering, the Pakistani newspaper reported.
