One dies after landslide hits China, 28 missing

At least one person died and 28 others remained missing after a landslide hit south-western China on Saturday.
The landslide hit Sichuan Province in the country at around 11.50 am.

The landslide struck the Junlian county in the southwestern Sichuan province on Saturday.

The province has mobilized 949 personnel from the armed police, firefighting, emergency response, transportation, medical, telecommunication, and other forces to carry out or assist the rescue efforts, reported Xinhua news agency.
Over 200 rescue vehicles and equipment, including excavators, fire engines and ambulances, have now been deployed by rescue operators in the area where the landslide occurred.
Rescuers have so far evacuated 360 people in 95 households.
Temporary shelters have been setup for those left homeless after the landslide.
162 people have been reportedly settled in the shelters.
China's President Xi Jinping has ordered an "all-out" rescue of those trapped, reported BBC.
2024 landslide
A landslide hit China's Yunnan province in January 2024 which left dozens of people killed.
A part of a village was destroyed after a steep cliff collapsed.
