Pakistan: Bajaur students protest against shortage of teachers
Students of government schools in Pakistan's Bajaur region recently protested against the shortage of teachers on Saturday.
The demonstration was held outside of the school building in Chamarkand tehsil located near the Pak-Afghan border, reports Dawn News.
The students chanted slogans against the officials of local education department, and said there were currently only two teachers in the school. They added the remaining teachers had either got themselves transferred or had been absent for last several years, the newspaper reported.
They noted that shortage of teachers had badly affected the studies of more than 500 students.
They said seniors in the area had brought the issue to the notice of officials but it has not yielded any result so far.
They said officials of education department during their visit to the school two months ago had promised arranging at least five teachers, but they had yet to fulfill their commitment, reports Dawn News.
