Pakistan says six civilians die due to 'indiscriminate' firing from Afghanistan

By IBNS
Sun Dec 11 2..

Quetta: Pakistan on Sunday said at least six civilians died due to  "unprovoked" and "indiscriminate" firing by Afghan forces near the Chaman border crossing in southwestern Balochistan province.

Seventeen people were injured in the incident.

"On 11 December 22, Afghan Border Forces opened unprovoked and indiscriminate fire of heavy weapons including artillery/ mortar onto the Civilian population in Chaman, Balochistan causing Shahadat of 6 x Civilians with another 17 x individuals being injured. Pakistani border troops have given befitting albeit measured response against the uncalled for aggression, but avoided targeting innocent Civilians in the area. Pakistan has also approached Afghan authorities at Kabul to highlight severity of the situation and demanded strict action to obviate any such recurrence of the incident in future," Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.

An Afghan Information Ministry spokesperson, wishing not to be named, told Anadolu Agency: "We have heard some reports in this regard. We are looking into the matter, and will inform media once the situation is clear."

Clashes between troops of both the nations at the border areas have been reported in the past as well.

There has been no change in situation even after the Taliban took control over the country last year.

Pakistan and Afghanistan share 18 border crossing points.
