Pakistan: Shehbaz Sharif's Turkey visit postponed amid earthquake tragedy
Islamabad: Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's recent visit to Turkey has been postponed due to the recent earthquake calamity which hit the country this week, leaving hundreds of people dead.
Rescue operation is still going on in the country.
Express News, quoting official sources, reported that the prime minister was supposed to leave for Turkey in the morning but the visit has been postponed due to bad weather and the Turkish leadership's engagements related to the ongoing rehabilitation efforts.
Sources added that PM Shehbaz would not be able to visit the affected areas as helicopters could not fly during bad weather, while the president and vice president of Turkey are also engaged in relief activities.
Sharif earlier tweeted mourning the loss of lives in the incident: "24 hours after the devastating earthquake hit Turkey & Syria, scenes of death & destruction are mind numbing. It breaks the heart to witness sheer scale of unfolding human tragedy. Solidarity should translate into tangible & timely material support for suffering humanity."
