Pakistan: Terrorists attack security forces' post in Dera Ismail Khan, 23 soldiers die
A least 23 Pakistani soldiers died after terrorists attacked a security forces' post in Dera Ismail Khan’s Daraban area on Tuesday, media reports said.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), six terrorists attacked the security post in the early morning hours, reported Dawn News.
“The attempt to enter the post was effectively thwarted which forced the terrorists to ram an explosive laden vehicle into the post, followed by a suicide bombing attack," ISPR said.
“The resulting blasts led to the collapse of the building, causing multiple casualities; 23 brave soldiers embraced shahadat, while all six terrorists were effectively engaged and sent to hell,”
According to reports, sanitisation operations are currently ongoing.
“Security forces of Pakistan are determined to wipe out the menace of terrorism from the country and such sacrifices of our brave soldiers further strengthens our resolve,” the ISPR said.
Former Sindh governor Dr Ishratul Ibad described the attack as 'heinous'.
"Deeply saddened by the heinous attack in Dera Ismail Khan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa on Daraban School and Daraban Police Station." My heartfelt condolences go out to the families of the fallen security men, and I wish for the injured to recover quickly," he said.
"Terrorist acts have no place in our society. These attacks can't shatter our nation's resolve against terrorism. Sending prayers for the brave souls to attain the greatest rank in Jannah. Aameen," he said.
