Speculation arises over Barack and Michelle Obama's relationship
Speculation about the state of Barack and Michelle Obama's relationship has grown after a body language expert suggested signs of strain between the former US President and First Lady.
Questions about their 31-year marriage have intensified following Michelle’s absence from key public events.
Body language analysis fuels speculation
Body language expert Judi James analysed Barack and Michelle Obama’s outing in Los Angeles last December, suggesting signs of detachment.
She noted Barack trailing behind Michelle as they left a restaurant, appearing serious while Michelle smiled at the cameras.
Once in their car, both were reportedly silent and avoided interaction.
“There was no active sign of togetherness,” James told Daily Mail, adding that their usual warmth and connection seemed absent.
Public absences add to rumours
Michelle Obama’s absence from two major events has further fuelled speculation. She was notably missing from the funeral service of former President Jimmy Carter, which was attended by several political figures.
Additionally, the Obamas’ office confirmed that Michelle would not attend Donald Trump’s upcoming inauguration ceremony.
A statement read, “Former President Barack Obama is confirmed to attend the 60th Inaugural Ceremonies. Former First Lady Michelle Obama will not attend the upcoming inauguration.”
No further explanation was provided.
Observers have pointed out that recent public appearances by the Obamas appear to lack their usual warmth and public displays of affection, leading to further conjecture.
Neither Barack nor Michelle Obama has addressed the rumours or commented on their relationship.
Supporters, however, remain optimistic that the speculation is baseless, pointing to the couple’s history of celebrating milestones and supporting one another through challenges.
Amid the assumptions, a post by the former president has gripped people’s attention.
Obama took to X to wish his wife on her birthday with a warm post, revealing his dedication to his wife.
“Happy birthday to the love of my life, Michelle Obama.. You fill every room with warmth, wisdom, humor, and grace – and you look good doing it. I’m so lucky to be able to take on life's adventures with you. Love you!” Obama wrote.
