CtrlS Datacenters Ltd lays out expansion plans for Kolkata
Kolkata/IBNS: CtrlS Datacentres Ltd, an India-based datacentre operator with over 250 MW live datacenter footprint across eight major markets in the country, has unveiled major expansion plans for Kolkata with an aim to develop a complete ecosystem of cutting-edge Artificial Intelligence (AI)-ready datacentres and advanced network to serve the connectivity needs of enterprises and hyperscalers in the region.

CtrlS Datacentres has earmarked an investment of Rs 2,200 crore to build a robust ecosystem in the near future, driven by the greenfield datacentre campus that will come up in the New Town area of Kolkata, which will be implemented over four phases with over 60 MW IT load capacity, along with a world-class network that will ensure seamless connectivity.
As part of the overall project, the first datacenter building is slated to go live in Q2 of FY-24, and will have 16MW IT load capacity and a built-up area of over 90,000 sq. ft.
This will be the first Rated-4 datacenter of East India, as per reports.
Highlighting the strategic importance of bringing CtrlS Datacentres’ world-class Rated-4 datacenter solutions to enterprises and government entities in Kolkata, CtrlS Datacentres' Colocation Business President Suresh Kumar Rathod said, "Along with our core offerings, we will also launch our full suite of managed services and advanced interconnectivity solutions tailored for this market."

Emphasizing on Kolkata's rising prominence, Suresh Kumar Rathod said, "This metropolitan city ranks third in India by GDP after Mumbai and Delhi, and with West Bengal boasting the third-largest internet subscriber base after Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh, the region is witnessing a rapid wave of digital transformation.
"These factors combined, are fueling an immense demand for robust and reliable datacentre services," he added.
Rathod said that CtrlS Datacentres, which currently runs 15 datacentres in India, is projected to grow by five times in the next five-six years.
Siddarth Reddy, CtrlS Datacentres' Vice President-Corporate Strategy and Global Expansion, said pillars of the company's investment plan include achieving Net Zero by 2030, adding 350 MW of AI and cloud-ready hyperscale datacentres, and doubling the number of its employees by 2029 as the company is planning to hire 1,000 highly skilled professionals in the next six years.
He added that the CtrlS Datacentres had plans to expand to 16 countries.
CtrlS Datacentres' Senior Vice President-Edge Business, Amit Singh, said that its Kolkata datacentre will be equipped with backup support for two days with 100 percent IT support.
What are Datacentres?
Datacentres are highly-specialised buildings that store and process massive volumes of data, and they are, essentially, the powerhouses of the global internet.
Businesses use datacentres to store their business data, end-customer data, critical applications, software, etc.
Datacentres also serve as computing facilities that help businesses run their applications and systems in real time.
