Kakinada (Andhra Pradesh): A man killed his two young sons before taking his own life, fearing they would struggle to succeed in an increasingly competitive world, media reports said.

The victims, aged six and seven, were found dead on Friday at their home in Andhra Pradesh's Kakinada, reported The Times of India.

Inspector B Peddi Raju of Sarpavaram police station identified the man as 31-year-old Vanapalli Chandra Kishore, an assistant at the ONGC office in Kakinada.

"He killed his two sons by tying up their hands and legs and drowning them in two buckets of water. The family is financially stable, so his actions are surprising," the officer said.

Kishore, who married Tanuja Sai Rani in 2017, had two sons, Joshith (7) and Nikhil (6), both studying in a private school.

Neighbours described the family as friendly and said the couple had been considering transferring the children to a better school for the upcoming academic year.

On Friday, the family had gone to the ONGC office in Vakalapudi village to celebrate Holi with Kishore’s colleagues.

Shortly after arriving, he told his wife he was taking the children to a tailor for new school uniforms and left the office with them.

When Kishore failed to return, his wife repeatedly tried calling him, but he did not answer.

Later, he sent a message saying he would be back in 10 minutes, but never came home.

Worried, Tanuja and one of his colleagues rushed to their house and found the doors locked from inside.

With no response to their knocks, the colleague gathered locals to break open the main door.

Inside, they found Kishore hanging from a ceiling fan, while the children were discovered in the bathroom with their hands and legs tied, their heads submerged in buckets of water.

A suicide note recovered from the scene revealed Kishore's distress over his sons' future, stating he feared they would struggle to establish themselves in a competitive world.
